Day 3

He took him outside and said: Look up at the sky and count the stars, if you can. Just so, he added, will your descendants be. Genesis 15:5

"Abraham lived about 4,000 years ago and was married to a woman named Sarah. God made three promises to Abraham: That He would make of him a great nation, He would make his name great, and all his descendants would be blessed. To be a great nation, God promised Abraham as many descendants as there are stars in the sky!

When Abraham and Sarah were really, really old, they had a baby named Isaac. And so it began! God began to fulfill His promises to Abraham generation after generation. Almost 2,000 years later, the King of Kings, Christ Jesus, would be born as a descendant of Abraham. And now, over 2,000 years after the birth of Jesus, Abraham’s descendants continue to grow through families like yours and mine; as adopted sons and daughters of God, this is our family tree!

Abraham’s story reminds us that God wants US to be a part of His work! In what way is God calling you to be a part of His work of bringing our neighbor closer to His heart? Abraham and Sarah had to wait a very long time to have Isaac. They almost lost hope that God would fulfill His promise. Do you ever feel this way? If you do, keep the story of Abraham, Sarah, and the rest of the Israelites in your heart — God's timing is perfect, and He never forgets us.

I pledge to joyfully reawaken a culture of life in my domestic church!
