Marriage Is Between One Man and One Woman
You may remember as we completed the May’s focus on the “feminine,” we talked about spousal love—love given, received, and shared. To complete our time talking about the “masculine” we will also end with a conversation about spousal love—as a sign of heaven.
Unlike any other creature, you and I—the human person—seek more than a fleeting joy; we seek happiness that fulfills for eternity, and nothing in this created world can fulfill an order that tall. God gave us a hunger for eternal happiness because that’s what we were created for—but where can we satiate such a desire? Heaven.
Because God created us for the perfect happiness of heaven, He wants us to know how to get there. So, through His creation of the human person, God gave us a sign pointing to heaven — marriage! We read in Genesis that at the very beginning of creation, God creates the gift of marriage between one man (bridegroom) and one woman (bride). Together, the masculine and feminine, reveal the most perfect image of God in the created world. The love between spouses—husband and wife—is sacred and unlike anything else in the created world.
Now that we have spent time discovering God’s design for the masculine and feminine, our Pray, Grow, and Serve this week helps you have the very important conversation with your child about the dignity of marriage between one man and one woman. Here is a snippet of how we encourage you to have this conversation with your child understanding that spousal love is always free, total, faithful, and fruitful.
“Willing our perfect good, Jesus wanted to give us the gift of happiness forever (eternity in heaven). On the cross, Jesus (the Bridegroom) gave Himself freely, totally, faithfully, and fruitfully to us (His Bride). He willingly allowed Himself to be nailed to the cross (free); in doing so, He gave His life holding nothing back (total); His sacrifice was obedient to the will of the Father (faithful), and opened the gates of heaven giving each of us the gift of new life (fruitful).
The Bridegroom’s sacrifice opened the gates of heaven for His Bride!
We must take great care to honor the gift of marriage between man and woman because it is a beautiful sign of Jesus’s love and the gift of heaven — perfect happiness forever.”
