“What do you want me to do for you?”

I pray in the car with the girls each morning on the way to school. I start with an, "Okay ladies…what is the prayer today?!" We always start with a prayer of thanksgiving, then make our way for intentions for the day. Last week, Mia was praying and asked God for the "gift of confidence." I was struck by her wording, precisely the word "gift." As a 42-year-old woman, I can affirm, as I am sure you can, that confidence is indeed a gift.

When we finished our prayer, I felt the Holy Spirit asking me to lean into it a little. I told her that next time, I think we should pray for the gift of "holy" confidence—because holy confidence is a whole different ball game than worldly confidence.

As I lay in bed that night, staring at the ceiling, unable to fall asleep, I thought about the Pray, Grow, & Serve that I wrote for your families this week: the Gift of holy confidence and Bartimaeus, the blind man who cried out to the Lord when everyone was trying to silence him; who stood before Jesus and received His words, "What do you want me to do for you?"

Imagine?

Well, imagine it, my dear friend, because He is asking you. Our Lord loves us so deeply that He desires us to have exactly what we need to flourish. He wants to lavish us with His good gifts, His grace, His love, His virtue, and He tells us in Matthew chapter 7, that when we ask it will be given… "Ask, and it will be given to you." (MT 7:7)

So, do you ask Jesus for what you need? I am not talking about the heresy of the prosperity Gospel; I am talking about getting on your knees and asking the Lord with holy confidence for restoration, wholeness, joy, peace, healing, understanding, faith… the list is endless.

What are you asking Jesus for? - For your spiritual health, your marriage, and your parenthood?

I can tell you what I ask Him for daily. Like Bartimaeus, I pray for the eyes to see Him - in each moment. I pray for a gentleness that doesn't come naturally to me. I pray for a deeper and richer love of the Eucharist. I pray for peace in the moments I don't understand; I pray for faith when I feel forgotten. I pray for good and holy friendship for myself and my children. I pray for their vocations, their future spouses, and the sanctification of their souls. I pray for heaven. And, along with Mia, I pray for the gift of holy confidence.

What are you asking Christ for?

What are your children asking Jesus for? Download this week's PGS and talk about it!

See you next week!
