Day 16
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us; upon his shoulder dominion rests. They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:5
Isaiah was a great advisor to the kings and a great prophet whose writings we can read today in the Bible. He isn’t in Jesus’s family tree, but he is a very important figure in the story of Israel. In the beautiful Temple of Solomon, Isaiah first heard God’s call to be His voice on earth as a prophet. Isaiah enjoyed his work, but it was difficult when God asked him to share bad news, like when Isaiah had to prophesize the fall of Israel because of the people’s sin. That must have been a hard scroll to write.
Isaiah prophesied about Jesus. He told the Israelites that a child would be called “Mighty God." Can you imagine? I’m sure many Israelites thought Isaiah was a little kooky. How can God be a child?! This was an interesting thought!
Isaiah’s prophecies about the coming of baby Jesus remind us of the perfect humility of God. People found it hard to believe what Isaiah was saying because they knew God was all-powerful and almighty—how could He be a small, vulnerable baby? It is hard, even today, for us to understand the mystery of the Incarnation—(God taking on human nature).
God loves us so much that He became small so we can know Him better. It is an important reminder that if GOD can take the lowest seat as a baby born in a manger, we too must be humble in all matters!
I pledge to joyfully reawaken a culture of life in my domestic church!
