Day 13
Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit. Isaiah 11:1
Recognize his name?... You should! Jesse, King David’s father, is the “Jesse” of which we call this Advent project the “Jesse Tree!” God had been preparing the Israelites for Jesus’s birth for a long time. One way He did this was by sending the Israelites prophets. Prophets were people chosen by God to speak for Him on earth. Isaiah was a prophet who wrote, “Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch from his roots will bear fruit.”
As a descendant of David, Jesus is also a descendant of David’s father, Jesse. When Jesus was born, the Israelites could trace back through the many prophecies about the promised Messiah. These prophecies were a gift from God that helped the Israelites understand who Jesus was!
Parenthood is a very important job. As co-creators with God, parents bring life into the world, and are their child’s most important teachers. As David’s father, Jesse brought new life into the world, taught him to love God, and prepared him for his role as King!
I pledge to joyfully reawaken a culture of life in my domestic church!
