Freedom & Law
The divinely revealed law, defined by just one word, is love. Love in action is the moral life. The morally good choice is the one that fulfills the purpose and meaning of the freedom to love as Christ does.
Pope St. John Paul II wrote, “The truth will set you free.” He continued, there is the “requirement of an honest relationship with regard to truth as a condition for authentic freedom and the warning to avoid every kind of illusory freedom, every superficial unilateral freedom, every freedom that fails to enter into the whole truth about man and the world.” (Redemptor Hominis)
Superficial freedom is found in the human tendency to make a subjective “truth” out of anything that does not demand immediate accountability. His warning is clear, fooling ourselves into thinking we can find freedom outside of the moral law rooted in Christ’s love is a lie.
Abortion doesn’t offer a woman freedom; rather, it subjugates her to fear, doubt, violence, and objectification, to name just a few.
