Where Is Your Well?
In today’s Gospel we read of Jesus’s encounter with the woman at the well. Jesus intentionally traveled to the well at midday to meet the Samaritan woman who chose to pull water in the noon-time heat rather than endure the side-eyed condemnation of the other women. For her, to be seen was to be humiliated; to them, she was the sum of her sins. Christ’s words to her are Spirit and Truth. In her vulnerability, she submitted to Him the canvas of her soul, and with it, faith, hope, and love brushed across its surface.
In prayer this week, ask yourself—Where is your well? Where do you feel most vulnerable? Where can Christ sit with you and speak His Spirit and Truth into your heart?
All of us have an inherent desire to be seen, known, and loved by God, but we walk a razor’s edge between the desire to be seen and delighted in by our heavenly Father and to be seen and delighted in by the world. Only with our gaze toward the heavens do we get this right…When our gaze lowers, and we look to the world for affirmation, we self-destruct.
This week, meditate over Peter’s walk on water. It was only possible with his eyes fixed on Jesus. When he focused on the water below anxiety, fear, and doubt filled him. What is going on right now in your life that tempts you to lower your gaze from Jesus? Let us pray the Litany of Trust this week as we grow in faith together.
